St Peter’s Church in Casa Grande, AZ is piloting a program called LAUNDRY LOVE. The organization pairs volunteers with laundromats to wash the clothes of the poor and needy. UBE-AZ is interested in observing this and perhaps encouraging it across the Diocese. Presently, St Peter’s is the only location in the state participating in this ministry. Saturday, February 15, 2025 will be our annual Absalom Jones Celebration. The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church located at 901 W Erie St, Chandler, AZ 85225. A reception will follow the service. This celebration reminds us of the shoulders we stand upon, and inspires us for the work that lies ahead. All are welcome, just show up!

In addition to a delicious brunch and brief business meeting, we heard from Karen Perkinson about Laundry Love at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Casa Grande, the beautiful ministry serving those experiencing homelessness for which we are collecting donations as the service component of this meeting. Donations to Laundry Love may be made directly through the St. Peter’s website by selecting “LaundryLove” from the pulldown menu (https://www.paypal.com/donate?token=_F33rnAZRPnNeV0BJ4vLYptREAN2PaR3jUC6NR3yCeXvL_JdswxTfPJ4WYhOWi8_Uw72D_Rxpx4x7o06) or you may mail a check written to “St. Peter’s Episcopal Church” (704 E. McMurray Blvd., Casa Grande, AZ 85122) with the Memo, “Laundry Love.”

Following the meeting, those who wished enjoyed a private tour of the nearby Museum of Casa Grande. It was especially interesting to learn about the 1930s era segregated Southside Colored Schoolhouse and its teacher, Rebecca Dallis, who was an important figure in Casa Grande African American history. We are very grateful to our wonderful hosts at The Big House Cafe and The Museum of Casa Grande and look forward to visiting again in the future.
